Frosty jog/walk this morning with the view across the Wirral lost in the mist. Heard three woodpeckers in the cemetery yesterday but none today. Can’t blame them if they were avoiding the chill.

Signed up for Glow Green night walk on Friday in aid of Clatterbridge Cancer Hospital. There may be photos…
First song thrush heard this morning. Pair of male mallards knocking seven bells out of each other on the mere. Even the normally placid moorhens are taking exception to an interloper. That time of year, I guess.
Update on consequences of recent cyber incident at #Wirral University Hospital Trust. Much as expected unfortunately. go.theregister.com/feed/www….
Chinese New Year dekkies much in evidence in Liverpool this morning. #YearOfTheSnake

Statue of self and better half pre-coffee in Walker Art Gallery this morning.
Pleasant morning visit to Ness and RSPB Burton. Latter is temporarily free admission on Saturday due to staff shortages though donations are encouraged. Cafe is closed Monday and Tuesday. #Wirral

I know you’re not supposed to have favourites.
Pale-bellied Brent geese on the West Kirby Marine Lake this afternoon, plus a more general view across the estuary with a few sunbeams poking optimistically through the cloud.

Tempted though timing is awkward. clatterbridgecharity.org/events/gl…
Uploaded my January sketch for the Bradford City of Culture initiative. Hopefully it won’t get displayed online but it’s been a fun challenge. Looking forward to February’s subject.
Giving Qobuz a go as part of a change of online subscriptions. Belatedly listened to Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert and then a bit of Miles Davis. Thus far a happy camper.
Small things make me happy.
Currently watching Official Secrets on the BBC iPlayer. Amused to see the beach at Thurstaston feature around 1hr 11 min as the DPP and defence lawyer stroll along the beach. 🎥 #Wirral
Watched and enjoyed the long and enigmatic Trenque Lauquen on MUBI. 🎥
Decent perambulation this morning and nice to see a handsome visitor at the mere. One tree down en route after yesterday’s storm.

A haunting anthem by London Grammar from a few years ago. youtu.be/nLVzyoNAT…
Watched Threads. Powerful stuff but very bleak. 🎥
Coffee with a view this morning at Thurstaston after very gentle perambulation. #Wirral
Slightly damp stroll this morning. About 16 ducks. Sadly one of last summer’s moorhen brood has acquired a badly damaged foot though still mobile and feeding. Three of the original four have survived to date. There’s also a duck with a longstanding limp so it’s not necessarily a portent.
Chilly morning stroll. Something like 18 ducks on the mere which isn’t necessarily good. Wonder where the extras came from and whether they’ll stay.
Having enjoyed watching the Spine Race I decided to sponsor by donating to Lucy Gossage’s JustGiving fundraiser in aid of her exceptionally worthy charity Move Against Cancer (Lucy won the women’s race). She’s still just shy of £20,000 which is a nice round number so do give if you can.
Darwin, you beaut!
Decent perambulation this morning. 15 ducks on the mere, presumably inc 3 visitors. Plenty of birdsong, couple of Merlin scans from yesterday attached.

Haven’t seen too much fpv of the Spine Race but this gives a superb highlight summary of the first 35 miles from a disappointed dnf. Still amazing and no, I’m not tempted 😉
